A sourdough loaf gets that much better when you add flavor!
There’s so much to love about a fresh loaf of homemade sourdough. A few add-ins can take your basic loaf to the next level for a more flavorful, fun, and personalized touch.
Scott Hutchins shared how, when, and why you should consider a mix-in on your next batch.
Why Should You Add Inclusions?
Adding sourdough inclusions can upgrade your loaf! It’s the simplest way to pack in a flavor punch.
What Inclusions Pair Best?
You can go sweet or savory with inclusions. Scott’s current favorites: cinnamon and chocolate! Here’s some more mix-in inspiration:
- Jalapeno Cheddar
- Sundried Tomatoes
- Fresh or Dried Herbs
- Dry Seasonings (Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Chili Powder, Everything But the Bagel Seasoning)
- Olives
- Cheese
- Garlic
- Artichokes
- Nuts and Seeds
- Pesto
- Cinnamon Chips
- Chocolate Chips
When Should You Add a Mix-In?
Typically, you should incorporate them during the stretch and fold. This way, you can make sure the inclusions are fully incorporated into the dough and evenly distributed.
Are Baking Directions the Same?
Bake it up the same way you normally would. Take your go-to recipe and follow the baking instructions.
