If you’ve never tried derby pie, this is your sign!
Our KSL News colleagues have been hopping over to dish out their favorite recipes. This sweet pie is a true southern specialty! Loaded with chocolate and walnuts, it’s a decadent dessert that KSL News Reporter Karah Brackin holds near and dear to her heart.
Growing up in Alabama, Karah recalls her mother making this pie every Christmas. “It makes a great gift as well for sharing.” She added, “Now, it’s my go-to!” In the south, this pie is sometimes referred to as a ‘Derby Pie.’ The secret is to warm up the pie before serving, or eat it fresh out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a big glass of milk.
